Alcoholics Anonymous in the Durham Region

Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

The Drug rehab process has different phases to get a complete rehabilitation. Detox is only the first step towards of rehabilitation treatment. Physical detox alone is not sufficient to change the patterns of a drug addict. To make a successful recovery, the addict needs new tools in order to deal with situations and problems which arise. Factors such as encountering someone from their days of using, returning to the same environment and places, or even small things such as smells and objects trigger memories which can create psychological stress. This can hinder the addict's goal of complete recovery, thus not allowing the addict to permanently regain control of his or her life. As well as the detox process, rehabilitation is the key to a stable drug free life.

A lot of addicts will tell you in the beginning that they can conquer their addiction on their own without the help of outside resources. Unfortunately, this is not the case. When an addict makes an attempt at detoxification and to discontinue drug use without the aid of professional help, statistically the results do not last long. Research into the effects of long-term addiction has shown that substantial changes in the way the brain functions are present long after the addict has stopped using drugs. Realizing that a drug addict who wishes to recover from their addiction needs more than just strong will power is the key to a successful recovery. Battling not only cravings for their drug of choice, re-stimulation of their past and changes in the way their brain functions, it is no wonder that quitting drugs without professional help is an uphill battle.

Drug rehabs in Canada have different length of time, philosophies and successes. Programs can be from 2 weeks to over 6 months. Patients who stay in a drug rehab longer than 3 months typically have better outcomes than those who stay less time. There is mainly 4 different types of programs. Twelve Steps, Behavior modification, Religious based and biophysical treatment. The success rate will vary from 5% to 80%. Also within the same type of program, the success will vary depending on the set up of the place, number of counselor etc.

Over the last 25 years, studies have shown that attending a drug rehab works to reduce drug intake and crimes committed by drug-dependent people. Researchers also have found that drug abusers who have been through a drug rehab are more likely to have jobs.

Long Term Drug Rehab Centers are drug rehabs that are approximately between three months and one year. You will find drug and alcohol treatments that the length will be from 2 weeks to one year or more. Don't get misdirected with the length of a drug rehab program. There is more important factors than the length. You will get some drug rehab centers who will have a specific length for their program. Others will go more on an individual basis as everybody is different and they will go for a specific result depending on factors like length of addiction, severity of the addiction and how the person will be able to face his addiction.

Drug rehab centers residential are facilities that you attend on a more or less volunteer basis. The facility will provide you room and board for the time of your recovery. Drug rehab residential are recommended for drug addict or alcoholic that have a severe addiction. As opposed to drug rehab outpatient, the addict does not go back to his environment. The residential option is the better one for the fact that the addict does not go back in to his environment. The environment has always been a big trigger for an addict. Just the fact that you pull someone off of his environment is therapeutic by itself. Unfortunately, this is not enough.

Also the goal of a good residential rehab is to get the person in control of his addiction and will also supply a good aftercare program. So the addict will achieve a free drug and alcohol life.

Drug rehab centers outpatient are facilities that you can go and when your courses, meetings, counseling etc are over. You go back home. Drug rehab outpatient are recommended for drug addict or alcoholic that does not have a severe addiction. As opposed to drug rehab residential, the outpatient option is always a risk as the addict goes back to his environment after his courses, meetings or counseling.

We did not find any clear success rate as far as outpatient treatment. From our investigation, one of the common point for this reason is that the aftercare is not really existent. Also the number of patients that finish the program is a really low average as they always the option to not go back. When an alcoholic or a drug addict has a craving, when is addiction triggers, they need to have someone to get them through that trigger or craving. The addict usually goes back to the environment that triggers his addiction. Then the addict is just good for another lost on getting sober.

Alcohol rehab is a place where an individual who has a drinking problem can receive help. Rehab is a program that helps the individual with their alcohol addiction and provides them with the tools necessary for a complete recovery.

Alcohol rehab works for many people who have problems with alcohol abuse. But just like any other drug of abuse, the individual has to be committed to make a change for the better. Some people stop drinking and remain sober. Others have long periods of sobriety with bouts of relapse. And still others cannot stop drinking for any length of time. With alcohol rehab, one thing is clear: the longer a person abstains from alcohol, the more likely he or she will be able to stay sober.
